Ben — Michael Jackson's second solo album — is Soul music distilled to its most disarming form: a boy's voice so naturally expressive it makes the orchestration feel like it's chasing him. The title track remains one of the great vocal performances of early-seventies Soul, and deeper cuts like "People Make The World Go 'Round" show a young artist already leaning into the social warmth that would define him.
