Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1968 debut self-titled album is a swamp / blues / psychadelia / prog rock masterpiece. "Suzie Q", the only Top 40 track ever to appear on a CCR album not written by John Fogerty, is wandering trippy blues rock with some of the best 60s guitar solos ever recorded. "Porterville" was originally recorded under the band's former name, The Golliwogs. This album is the birth of a new sound, as CCR would go on to popularise that swampy, rootsy, blues rock. That, dare we say it, bayou sound. Not bad for a few guys who grew up in California. Vinyl, of course, is the only acceptable medium for listening to this kind of 60s freakout.
