Rhythm and Blues is a pivotal part of popular music history. The ascendency of Blues into a more commercial format, influenced by New Orleans Jazz, and championed by black songwriters who were finding their voice, was a real turning point.

A pre-cursor to Soul, Rhythm and Blues was also one of the largest factors in the creation of arguably the most important musical genre of all time - Rock and Roll. 

Artists like Fats Domino, Little Richard and Bo Diddley did much of the groundwork for the sounds and song structure you hear in all modern music.
